Ragnar Relay Race Weekend
A few weeks ago, the UK series of the Ragnar Relay Race (put on by the same organisers of the Brighton Marathon) saw around 1,200 runners taking part in a 176 mile relay race from Maidstone to Brighton. The route takes in some of the most scenic locations along the South East coast including Whitstable, Margate, Dover, Folkestone, Hastings and of course Brighton.
SPACE + THYME provided a welcome hot meal and refreshments to the weary runners, who were not only battling against physical and mental exhaustion, but also against the elements that provided little respite for most of the weekend with the forecasted rain and a dip in temperatures.
Our catering stations were set up in Folkestone which marks the halfway point in the race and also at Black Rock near the Brighton Marina which was where the race finished. In Folkestone, the runners came in a steady stream from 7pm through to 1am the following morning, whilst in Brighton the first runners started crossing the finish line at about 10am. Last across the finish line was the sun that eventually made an appearance towards the end of the day!
Our warming and delicious food included gourmet beef burgers, cheese burgers and loaded burgers, BBQ pulled chicken and beef chilli, and for the vegetarians we had a delicious vegetable tagine with a selection of healthy and colourful salads.
Ragnar Relay returns to the UK in September next year. Congratulations to all the runners that took part in this epic endurance race!
